📒The Leadership Experience Of A Daycare Center Director ✍ Tala Sabbah Al-Haj
📝The Leadership Experience of a Daycare Center Director Book Synopsis : The purpose of this project is to review the leadership experience of a director of a daycare center in Lebanon. This experience will be put in the form of a ca se study that describes and attempts to understand some of the various challenge s and issues which wee faced b y the director while running her childcare center . Through the narration of authentic stories, this reflective reporting (Gall, G all & Borg, 2005) also aims at gaining insight into the leadership style of the director. Data sources used are the director's personal reflection on past exper iences, memos sent to teachers and parents, video films as well as old photograp hs. A review of the literature reveals three studies done on preschool education in Lebanon. In 1971, Mroueh surveyed the prevailing conditions related to education al programs in eight nursery schools. In 1996 Abu Nasr compared the cognitive de velopment of bilingual and monolingual children. A more recent research explored the new preschool curriculum (1997) looking into its objectives and emerging is sues (Bachour, Hoteit, Mukallid & Sleem, 2002). Preschool however involves stude nts between age three and six whereas daycare education as will be covered in th is study relates to children under the age of three. Hence the gap in research o n this stage needs to be filled. Furthermore the administrative side of early ch ildhood education has not yet been explored in Lebanon. After all childcare cent ers are mini organizations and their administration does involve some form of le adership. The conceptual framework in this study will be based on the "Reframing Leadershi p" theory (Bolman & Deal, 1997) and on the "Situational Leadership" model (Herse y, 1984). Conclusions can be of practical use for both current and aspirant directors.
📒The Leader S Experience Of Relational Leadership ✍ Deborah A. Fredericks
📝The Leader s Experience of Relational Leadership Book Synopsis : There are many ways to lead others, all of which involve a relationship among parties. However, the heartbeat of leadership may be a leader's relational sensibility. This research explored the leader's experience of relational leadership and the extent to which the metaphor of leadership as friendship described its qualities. It also explored whether actual friendship between leaders and followers was possible with this form of leadership. The topic of relational leadership was approached through a hermeneutic phenomenological methodology to explore the lived experiences of six women leaders. Their experience of relational leadership and the degree to which the metaphor of leadership as friendship represented their experience was the vantage point for this study. Using an inverted pyramid structure, in-depth interviews were conducted in three rounds consisting of six, three, and two participants for a total of 11 interviews. This research augments the leadership literature by describing the leader's experience of relational leadership and the degree to which the metaphor of leadership as friendship captures its qualities. This research concluded that leaders can, and do, find ways to lead with friends, to lead with characteristics one finds in friendship, or both. It demonstrated that leaders can have actual friendships (with each other and with their followers or subordinates), provided boundaries are maintained.
📒The Shaping Of An Effective Leader ✍ Gayle D. Beebe
📝The Shaping of an Effective Leader Book Synopsis : Leadership is both an art and a science. We may be tempted to look for a sure-fire formula, but the reality is quite different: effective leaders are exceptional generalists rather than narrow specialists. The best leaders take what the best business experts have to offer, and apply that based on their own abilities, experience and judgment. And these leaders seek real-life mentors and learn from them. Gayle Beebe, who has spent over a decade as a college president, had the opportunity to study with Peter Drucker, the father of modern management and the author of The Effective Executive. Drawing on Drucker's influence as well as his own years of experiences as a pastor, administrator and president, Beebe has developed a pyramid of leadership principles. The combination of these defines a leader of influence and integrity. In these pages you'll also meet some of Beebe's other mentors: Steve Sample of USC, Harold A. "Red" Poling of Ford Motor Company, Richard Foster of Renovaré, David McKenna of Asbury Seminary and Bob Emmons of Smart&Final. In a day of relentless self-direction, strong leaders have a critical role. With this book you can discover what it takes to be effective in your sphere of influence.

📝The Effect of Military Experience on Civilian and Military Healthcare Facility CEO Leadership Development Behaviors and Outcomes Book Synopsis : This study examined whether the leadership experiences and leadership behaviors of United States healthcare facility Chief Executive Officers are affected by military or civilian experience. The study also investigated whether differences in leadership outcomes, as perceived by key subordinates, were affected by the CEO's leadership development experiences or leadership behaviors. The goal of this study was to investigate how occupationally similar, yet experientially diverse, military and civilian hospital CEOs differ in significant leadership experiences, behaviors, and three performance outcomes, namely perceived effectiveness, follower satisfaction with the leader, and willingness of subordinates to put forth extra effort. Responses from a national sample of civilian and military healthcare facility CEOs affiliated with the American College of Healthcare Executives were used to address the research questions. A total of 117 healthcare facility CEOs and 190 key subordinates completed surveys designed to evaluate leadership development experiences and subordinates' perceptions of leader behaviors and outcomes. Analysis of Variance was chosen as the method for data analysis to describe quantitatively the relationship between CEO military experience and leadership development experiences, leadership styles, and leadership outcomes. Results indicated that the CEO's adult leadership development activities differed by military experience. The facility CEOs with prior military experience had unique leadership promoting and inhibiting factors. However, the prediction was not supported that the military CEOs would exhibit stronger leadership behaviors. Again, significant differences were not found between facility CEO groups in mean scores for leadership outcomes of extra effort, satisfaction and perceived effectiveness of the leader. The study findings added to the healthcare leadership knowledge base concerning improvement of the organizational outcomes of United States healthcare facilities. In addition, the results of this study have potential for linkage with assessments of ongoing military and civilian healthcare leader development initiatives.
