We see in their lives specific examples of faithful responses to God and how their examples of faith can be put into practice in concrete, real-life situations. Dr. Tyson looks at the faith of the following great people of Christian faith: Vibia Perpetua (ca. 181-203), Athanasius of Alexandria (ca. 296-373), Augustine of Hippo (ca. 354-430), Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109), Francis (ca. 1181-1226) and Clare (ca. 1193-1254) of Assisi, Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274), Catherine of Siena (1347-1380), Julian of Norwich (ca. 1342-1423), Martin Luther (1483-1546), John Calvin (1509-1564), John (1703-1791) and Charles (1707-1788) Wesley, Karl Barth (1886-1968), Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945), Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968), and Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997).

📒John Stoward Moyes And The Social Gospel ✍ Paul Terracini
📝John Stoward Moyes and the Social Gospel Book Synopsis : This book deals with the social gospel and one of its leading proponents in twentieth century Australia, the Anglican bishop of Armidale, New South Wales, from 1929 to 1964, John Moyes. It is an investigation and assessment of the career of Bishop Moyes as a study in Christian social engagement. It concerns his vision for the role of the church in society and his contribution to that effect. It is not a biography of John Moyes. Neither is it an exhaustive history of the social gospel movement in Australia or anywhere else, although they both feature prominently throughout. Bishop Moyes was a highly articulate public debater who participated in several of the critical episodes in Australian history during the twentieth century. The reader will find within the pages of this book discussion of highly contentious issues such as the attempt to ban the Communist Party of Australia in 1950 and 1951, the decision to commit Australian troops to the Vietnam War in 1965, and the Christian response to state-legitimised violence. Moyes is placed in context with some of the most notable Christian spokespeople on social and political issues in the twentieth century, such as Walter Rauschenbusch, Ernest Burgmann, William Temple, George Bell, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Reinhold Niebuhr, Martin Luther King Jr., and André Trocmé. It is argued here that John Moyes made intelligent, prescient, and compassionate contributions to many of the issues to which he turned his mind, but that, like most others before or since, he was unable to find a solution to the theological and moral challenges raised by the perceived threat to Australia’s sovereignty during World War II. This book challenges the view that when national sovereignty is threatened, the Christian response must be to support the government’s call to war.

📒A Testament Of Hope ✍ Martin Luther King
📝A Testament of Hope Book Synopsis : "We've got some difficult days ahead," civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr., told a crowd gathered at Memphis's Clayborn Temple on April 3, 1968. "But it really doesn't matter to me now because I've been to the mountaintop. . . . And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land." These prohetic words, uttered the day before his assassination, challenged those he left behind to see that his "promised land" of racial equality became a reality; a reality to which King devoted the last twelve years of his life. These words and other are commemorated here in the only major one-volume collection of this seminal twentieth-century American prophet's writings, speeches, interviews, and autobiographical reflections. A Testament of Hope contains Martin Luther King, Jr.'s essential thoughts on nonviolence, social policy, integration, black nationalism, the ethics of love and hope, and more.
📒Why We Can T Wait ✍ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
📝Why We Can t Wait Book Synopsis : Dr. King’s best-selling account of the civil rights movement in Birmingham during the spring and summer of 1963 On April 16, 1963, as the violent events of the Birmingham campaign unfolded in the city’s streets, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., composed a letter from his prison cell in response to local religious leaders’ criticism of the campaign. The resulting piece of extraordinary protest writing, “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” was widely circulated and published in numerous periodicals. After the conclusion of the campaign and the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, King further developed the ideas introduced in the letter in Why We Can’t Wait, which tells the story of African American activism in the spring and summer of 1963. During this time, Birmingham, Alabama, was perhaps the most racially segregated city in the United States, but the campaign launched by King, Fred Shuttlesworth, and others demonstrated to the world the power of nonviolent direct action. Often applauded as King’s most incisive and eloquent book, Why We Can’t Wait recounts the Birmingham campaign in vivid detail, while underscoring why 1963 was such a crucial year for the civil rights movement. Disappointed by the slow pace of school desegregation and civil rights legislation, King observed that by 1963—during which the country celebrated the one-hundredth anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation—Asia and Africa were “moving with jetlike speed toward gaining political independence but we still creep at a horse-and-buggy pace.” King examines the history of the civil rights struggle, noting tasks that future generations must accomplish to bring about full equality, and asserts that African Americans have already waited over three centuries for civil rights and that it is time to be proactive: “For years now, I have heard the word ‘Wait!’ It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This ‘Wait’ has almost always meant ‘Never.’ We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that ‘justice too long delayed is justice denied.’”

📒Christian Meat For Christian Muscles ✍ Sandtorock
📝Christian Meat for Christian Muscles Book Synopsis : Being strong in the Lord is essential for successful Christian living. This is the underlying premise of ‘Christian Meat for Christian Muscles’. Strength in the Lord means that every area of our lives will benefit from a good dose of spiritual nutrition with Jesus as the main course. How so? Our self esteem can benefit, our character can benefit, our wisdom can benefit; and so to can our faith, our love and our appreciation of Christian values. It will require strength to lay hold of these spiritual treasures, because there is a mighty battle on to stop us. But thankfully spiritual strength is dispensed directly from the Lord. Spiritual nutrition from Jesus Christ is what He meant when He himself said “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:53-54 NIV) Of course He’s talking about His own gospel which has the power to save us, strengthen us and make us worthy of His name, and of God’s mighty Kingdom. This book will examine pivotal verses that facilitate the strengthening process. See sandtorock.com for more info on this important topic
