📝Middlesex Book Synopsis : Winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction: the dazzling international bestseller from the author of The Virgin Suicides . a rollicking family epic like no other!
📝Middlesex Book Synopsis : A dazzling triumph from the bestselling author of The Virgin Suicides--the astonishing tale of a gene that passes down through three generations of a Greek-American family and flowers in the body of a teenage girl. In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry blond clasmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them--along with Callie's failure to develop--leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all. The explanation for this shocking state of affairs takes us out of suburbia- back before the Detroit race riots of 1967, before the rise of the Motor City and Prohibition, to 1922, when the Turks sacked Smyrna and Callie's grandparents fled for their lives. Back to a tiny village in Asia Minor where two lovers, and one rare genetic mutation, set in motion the metamorphosis that will turn Callie into a being both mythical and perfectly real: a hermaphrodite. Spanning eight decades--and one unusually awkward adolescence- Jeffrey Eugenides's long-awaited second novel is a grand, utterly original fable of crossed bloodlines, the intricacies of gender, and the deep, untidy promptings of desire. It marks the fulfillment of a huge talent, named one of America's best young novelists by both Granta and The New Yorker. Middlesex is the winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

📒Sex In Middlesex ✍ Roger Thompson
📝Sex in Middlesex Book Synopsis : Social historian Roger Thompson brings the forgotten and faceless men and women in 17th-century Massachusetts to suggest that records from Middlesex County of the Colony and Province of Massachusetts Bay show that the puritan social system was not so rigid and the relationships between sexes not so regulated as some historians have suggested. The argument of 'Sex in Middlesex' is revisionist: the 'puritans' and 'theocrats' who throng its pages do not behave in accordance with popular stereotype or conform tot he interpretations of major historians.

📝Middlesex Book Synopsis : In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blond classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. Cal is born twice: once as a baby girl, and again, fourteen years later, as a teenage boy. Through nine generations of the Stephanides family, this genetic secret has slowly passed. It followed Lefty and Desdemona as they fled from the invading Turks in the crumbling Ottoman Empire and into a new life as immigrants in America. Then it followed their son, Milton, who narrowly escaped the race riots in Detroit and went on to build his own hot-dog empire. Now this mutation is about to be dramatically revealed to Calliope. Cal is a skinny and flat-chested fourteen-year-old with the faint hint of a mustache. But these are the least of her problems, as she holds the key to a unique family secret. Her epic story follows three generations of the Greek-American Stephanides family who travel from a village overlooking Mount Olympus in Asia Minor to Prohibition-era Detroit, witnessing its glory days as the Motor City and the race riots of 1967, before arriving in the tree-lined suburban streets of Grosse Point, Michigan. Now an astonishing genetic history is about to be dramatically revealed to Calliope, making her adolescent years that bit more challenging.

📝Address to the Clergy and the People of the County of Middlesex from the Middlesex Massachusetts Auxiliary Society in Aid of the American Society for Educating the Gospel Ministry Book Synopsis :
📝The Different Implications of the Name Middlesex in the Novel of the Same Name by Jeffrey Eugenides Book Synopsis : Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1,3, University of Paderborn (Anglistik und Amerikanistik), course: Jeffrey Eugenides's Middlesex, language: English, abstract: The novel Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides won the Pulitzer Price in 2002. If you endeavour to sum up the story in one sentence, you could say it is an epic tale of an hermaphrodite of Greek origin, of his genealogy and of the first forty years of his life in the USA and in Berlin, told by himself. The question is: Why did Eugenides choose the title "Middlesex" for his novel? and: How can the motive "Middlesex" be traced in the text? In trying to answer this, I used different ways of appraoch. First I strived to get some explanations from the outside, using dictionaries, the internet, and also referring to "Middlemarch" by George Eliot, because the title bears a resemblance to "Middlesex." Next I found some interviews on the internet in which Eugenides speaks about his book. Then I turned to the novel itself. It is obvious that I looked into the chapter "Middlesex" first. Then I tried to find out whether there was any connection between the hermaphrodite status of Cal and the title. The last step I took was to analyze the relations of the four couples who make up Cal's entourage in order to learn, if there was anything that linked them to the title. A short evaluation of the results of this quest shall be given in the conclusion of this paper.
