📒A Theory Of Harmony ✍ Ernst Levy
📝A Theory of Harmony Book Synopsis : In this introduction to natural-base music theory, Ernst Levy presents the essentials of a comprehensive, consistent theory of harmony developed from tone structure. A Theory of Harmony is a highly original explanation of the harmonic language of the last few centuries, showing the way toward an understanding of diverse styles of music. Basic harmony texts exist, but none supply help to students seeking threads of logic in the field. In a text abundantly illustrated with musical examples, Levy makes clear the few principles that illuminate the natural forces in harmony. He shows that general principles can be successfully extracted from the wealth of examples. This book actually provides a theory of harmony. One of the major musical minds of the twentieth century, Ernst Levy was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1895. His musical career spanned more than seven decades, from his first public piano performance at age six. A naturalized U.S. citizen, he lived here from 1941 to 1966, teaching at the New England Conservatory, the University of Chicago, Bennington College, the Massachusetts institute of Technology, and Brooklyn College. After his retirement, Levy returned to Switzerland where he continued to compose until his death in 1981. He was an enormously productive composer, with hundreds of works to his credit including symphonies, string quartets, songs in English, French, and German, and music for solo instruments and small ensembles. His piano recordings, particularly of the last Beethoven sonatas and the Liszt sonata, have become collectors items. He thought of himself as a successor to Reimann, immediately, and Rameau, more remotely."
📒Theory Of Harmony ✍ Arnold Schoenberg
📝Theory of Harmony Book Synopsis : This book will come as a joy, a revelation, a warm reassurance. From this one book one might well learn less about harmony than about form, about aesthetics, even about life. Some will accuse Schoenberg of not concentrating on the topic at hand, but such an accusation, though well-founded, would miss the point of Theory of Harmony, because the heart and soul of the book is to be found in his vivid and penetrating digressions. They are the fascinating reflections of a great and humane musician who was a born writer as well. - from the book.

📒Harmony ✍ Heinrich Schenker
📝Harmony Book Synopsis : Harmony, Heinrich Schenker's first published work, originally appeared in German in 1906 as "New Musical Theories and Phantasies, by an Artist." Its unusual title indicates what was to be the rationale of Schenker's lifework, that artistic problems call for artistic solutions. Schenker's dedication to the formulation of a complete musical theory above the commonplace theoretical discussions was, in essence, his quest for a pattern in nature for music as art. Schenker's theory draws upon a profound understanding of the works of the masters and every proposition is illustrated by a living musical example.

📒A Harmony Of Angels ✍ Angela McGerr
📝A Harmony of Angels Book Synopsis : A spiritual self-help guide for people who need harmony in their lives, A Harmony of Angels invites readers to rediscover the long lost tradition of calling upon angels for help. Angela McGerr describes seven angels, one for each day of the week. At some point in our lives, each one of us has stumbled upon a tiny white feather, curiously picked it up, turned it over gently in our fingers, and wondered where it came from. A Harmony of Angels teaches readers to see these delicate feathers as messages sent by angels. The word angel means messenger - it's derived from the Greek angelos. These messages can take many forms, such as unexpected aromas or colors, tingling in the air, or sudden feelings of loving warmth, but they have one meaning: we are not alone. A Harmony of Angels awakens readers to these signs, teaches them how to find the names of their guardian angels, and guides them in creating home sanctuaries to recharge the spirit. "In learning how to commune with angels you will never be alone or lack spiritual guidance," author Angela McGerr writes. The book includes daily tips, practical exercises, visualizations, rituals and meditations to help readers find tranquility every day of the week. Angel enthusiasts, people who are seeking spiritual guidance to help them through stress or difficult situations, and seekers of spiritual direction who aren't comfortable with the traditions of established churches can all find comfort by calling upon the seven "beings of pure spirit" described by Angela McGerr. These angels, Gabriel (Monday), Camael (Tuesday), Michael (Wednesday), Zadkiel (Thursday), Haniel (Friday), Cassiel (Saturday), and Raphael (Sunday), transcend any one religion: they're found in the sacred texts of Christianity, Judaism, Islam and other religions. The idea of calling upon angels for help can be traced back two thousand years to the Essenes, a religious group focused on healing who believed spiritual and physical well-being must come from communing with angels daily. The Essenes are thought to have written most of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
