📒Cross Roads ✍ Wm. Paul Young
📝Cross Roads Book Synopsis : Anthony Spencer is egotistical, proud of being a self-made business success at the peak of his game, even though the cost of winning was painfully high. A cerebral hemorrhage leaves Tony comatose in a hospital ICU. He 'awakens' to find himself in a surreal world, a 'living' landscape that mirrors dimensions of his earthly life, from the beautiful to the corrupt. It is here that he has vivid interactions with others he assumes are projections of his own subconscious, but whose directions he follows nonetheless with the possibility that they might lead to authenticity and perhaps, redemption. The adventure draws Tony into deep relational entanglements where he is able to 'see' through the literal eyes and experiences of others, but is "blind" to the consequences of hiding his personal agenda and loss that emerge to war against the processes of healing and trust. Will this unexpected coalescing of events cause Tony to examine his life and realize he built a house of cards on the poisoned grounds of a broken heart? Will he also have the courage to make a critical choice that can undo a major injustice he set in motion before falling into a coma?

At The Crossroads: A Vision Of Hope realistically examines the promise and peril we face in a world of rapid and sometimes threatening changes, a world of advances in knowledge and declines in civility, and provides reasons for hope "based not on wishful thinking, but on the timeless values and ideas which have sustained and do sustain us through all sorts of sociological and political and economic changes". 📒Crossroads ✍ John Milward
📝Crossroads Book Synopsis : The blues revival of the early 1960s brought new life to a seminal genre of American music and inspired a vast new world of singers, songwriters, and rock bands. The Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song; Led Zeppelin forged bluesy riffs into hard rock and heavy metal; and ZZ Top did superstar business with boogie rhythms copped from John Lee Hooker. Crossroads tells the myriad stories of the impact and enduring influence of the early-'60s blues revival: stories of the record collectors, folkies, beatniks, and pop culture academics; and of the lucky musicians who learned life-changing lessons from the rediscovered Depression-era bluesmen that found hipster renown by playing at coffeehouses, on college campuses, and at the Newport Folk Festival. The blues revival brought notice to these forgotten musicians, and none more so than Robert Johnson, who had his songs covered by Cream and the Rolling Stones, and who sold a million CDs sixty years after dying outside a Mississippi Delta roadhouse. Crossroads is the intersection of blues and rock 'n' roll, a vivid portrait of the fluidity of American folk culture that captures the voices of musicians, promoters, fans, and critics to tell this very American story of how the blues came to rest at the heart of popular music.
📒Crossroads And Other Plays ✍ Carlos Solórzano
📝Crossroads and Other Plays Book Synopsis : This is a collection, in translation, of eight plays by Carlos Solorzano - one of the foremost playwrights of modern Latin America. The collection offers the reader a representative cross section of different styles and themes in the Mexican dramatist's theater. Carlos Solorzano was born in 1922 to a prominent and wealthy family in San Marcos, Guatemala. Yet he is most closely identified with Mexico, where he has lived and worked since 1929. In 1948, a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation brought him to Paris for studies at the Sorbonne. During his studies, he became acquainted with many of the leading men of letters of the time, among them Camus and Ghelderode, whose influence is reflected in his work. Solorzano's interest in theater and academic activities continued when he returned to Mexico City. Among other positions, he served as the director of the Teatro Universitario as well as the director of the Museo Nacional de Teatro. He taught at several universities in the United States, too - including Columbia University, the University of Southern California, and the University of Kansas. He is presently "Professor de Carrera" at the Universidad Autonoma and editor, for Latin America, of the Enciclopedia Mundial del Teatro Contemporaneo. His contributions to the theater in Latin America range from articles in theater journals to theater histories and anthologies to the original plays that concern us here. His extraordinary work in this last area of contribution was recognized in 1989 when he received the "Premio Nacional de Literatura 'Miguel Angel Asturias'" in Guatemala, an honor which, in his words, "me lleno de satisfaccion." In this volume, Francesca Colecchia presents us with plays by Solorzano that will give us pause to think. Here are intriguing works - the themes ranging from a reenactment of Christ's crucifixion to a political allegory to an exploration of the reason for man's existence. Again and again coming to the fore is the playwright's fundamental concern with man's right to self-determination, not only in the political sphere, but in the intellectual and spiritual spheres as well. Though writing in Spanish and using what is essentially Mexican as a point of departure for his plays, Solorzano transcends regional circumstances in his theater, transforming them into the more universal questions confronting all men.
