📒The Expositions On The Psalms Annotated Edition ✍ St. Augustine of Hippo
📝The Expositions On The Psalms Annotated Edition Book Synopsis : This is the extended and annotated edition including * an extensive biographical annotation about the author and his life In any commentary on a portion of the Old Testament by a writer unacquainted with Hebrew, exact criticism, and freedom from mistake, must not be expected. But the Psalms have been so in the mouth and in the heart of God’s people in all languages, that it has been necessary often to find an explanation suitable to imperfect translations. And no doubt it is intended that we should use such explanations for the purpose of edification, when we are unable to be more accurate, though in proving doctrine it is necessary always to remember and allow for any want of acquaintance with the original, or uncertainty with respect to its actual meaning. However, the main scope and bearing of the text is rarely affected by such points as vary in different translations, and the analogy of the faith is sufficient to prevent a Catholic 4 mind from adopting any error in consequence of a text seeming to bear a heterodox meaning. Perhaps the errors of translation in the existing versions may have led the Fathers to adopt rules of interpretation ranging too far from the simple and literal; but having such translations, they could hardly use them otherwise. Meanwhile St. Augustin will be found to excel in the intense apprehension of those great truths which pervade the whole of Sacred Writ, and in the vivid and powerful exposition of what bears upon them. It is hardly possible to read his practical and forcible applications of Holy Scripture, without feeling those truths by the faith of which we ought to live brought home to the heart in a wonderful manner. His was a mind that strove earnestly to solve the great problems of human life, and after exhausting the resources, and discovering the emptiness, of erroneous systems, found truth and rest at last in Catholic Christianity, in the religion of the Bible as expounded by St. Ambrose. And though we must look to his Confessions for the full view of all his cravings after real good, and their ultimate satisfaction, yet throughout his works we have the benefit of the earnestness with which he sought to feed on the “sincere milk of the word.”

📒In His Image ✍ Matthew Lee Smith
📝In His Image Book Synopsis : In His Image is the next step for those who have read The Purpose Driven Life. Following the Life Purpose of Mission, this book explores God's great love for humanity from every book of the Bible. From the creation of Genesis to the culmination in Revelation, God’s love shines through every page. Never is this ever clearer than in the times of Israel’s great betrayal of their God. His passionate pursuit of His children can be heard dripping from his voice as He calls them (and us by proxy) back to His shelter and protection. This book was written ... • To convince the reader of God’s intense and immense love for them; • To encourage the reader to reach out to the God who is passionately in love with them; • To strengthen the reader’s faith in God’s compassion; and • To motivate the reader to share the love of God with every person they meet. It is very clear God loves people of all races and ethnicities. Therefore, whenever appropriate to the passage of the day, emphasis is made on the issue of racial reconciliation around God’s love. His love becomes the motivation for evangelism and for community. In each daily devotional ... • There is a Biblical Scripture they are encouraged to read; • There is a passage of Scripture to read in the devotional itself; • There is the devotional to read which focuses the reader on a single thought, broken into two, three or four practical ideas they can utilize that day in their lives; and • There is a thought to take with the reader each day which summarizes the theme concerning God’s great love for them.

📒Authentic Christianity ✍ Gordon Haresign
📝Authentic Christianity Book Synopsis : “Authentic Christianity is an insightful and timely wake-up call to every Christian today. If you want to rediscover what the church is all about, this is a good place to start.” —Whitney T. Kuniholm, president, Scripture Union USA Authentic Christianity is more than a scholarly exposition of the first three chapters of the book of Revelation. The book takes you on a tour from the small island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea to the sites of seven ancient cities in what was known as Asia Minor. The messages Christ conveyed to the churches in those cities are as stunning today as they were then. The author relates those messages into direct confrontation and challenge as he builds a convincing case for the display of authentic Christianity. Authentic Christianity captures attention from the outset as it not only examines Christ’s critique of those churches at the end of the first century; it exposes today’s churches. In light of the church’s declining influence in the world, the author makes an exceptionally strong appeal for those who call themselves Christians to be authentic. Authentic Christianity exalts Christ’s role in the church and reflects the high standard expected of Christians today. In an age when the church is increasingly scorned, the author sounds a clarion call for repentance and revival. This is a compelling read. The book, containing personal and practical illustrations, is a dynamic challenge to bring one’s life into conformity with Christ’s expectations. The reader cannot possibly remain indifferent after reading the book and seriously considering its timely message. The book is an appeal for action, change, revival and authenticity.
